The New Deal:

Since 1997 The Government says that the New Deal for 18-24 year olds has helped cut long-term youth unemployment...

  • in London by over a half
  • in the North East by more than two-thirds
  • in the North West by almost two-thirds
  • in the West Midlands by just over half
  • in the the East Midlands by over a half
  • in the East of England by just under 60 %
  • in the South East by over a half
  • in the South West by almost three quarters
  • in Yorkshire and The Humber by more than two-thirds

In January 2004, Working Tax Credits and/or Child Tax Credits were being given to:

  • 78,800 families in London
  • 223,000 families in North East
  • 562,600 families in the North West
  • 428,300 families in the West Midlands
  • 355,200 families in East Midlands
  • 397,100 families in East of England
  • 542,500 families in the South East
  • 390,300 families in the South West
  • 425,600 families in Yorkshire and The Humber

Working

If you're under 21 you won't autonomatically get the normal 'mimimum wage', but are garanteed at least £4.25 an hour if you're 18-21 and just £3.00 if you're 16 or 17.
