Improve the ways young people are treated - at the doctors or in the hospital

The way your medical records are kept and who has access to them will be changed over the next year. At the moment most people have a paper record but eventually everyone will have a computer record called an ELECTRONIC HEALTHCARE RECORD (EHR).

The purpose of this survey is to help the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) and the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) create guidelines for healthcare professionals working with young people. Healthcare professionals include staff such as doctors, nurses (including school nurses,) surgeons, ambulance staff, physiotherapists and counsellors.

By answering this quick survey (it shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes) you will be helping healthcare staff to provide a better service to all young people.

This survey is confidential which means we will only use the information you tell us to help create guidelines for healthcare professionals. We will not ask you for any personal details such as your name or address.

What do people who find it hard to communicate need to help them?

An independent group are doing a consultation called the 'Bercow Review of Speech, Language and Communication Needs'. It aims to find out what support young people need to make sure they're understood, by asking for information from anyone who has experience or knows what help is needed.

So if you or anyone you know has problems talking, understanding people or getting people to undertand them, you can get in touch with them.

The Communities secretary Hazel Blears has written a plan to try and help local communities get 'empowered'. Its called 'An Action Plan For Community Empowerment: building on success', and the idea is to make local decisions by involving local people so that new ideas work better. One important bit of the plan talks about making some money available to be spent through 'participatory budgeting'- which means getting local people (including young people) involved in directing how money is spent. You can have your say on their online forum.

Staying Safe Consultation

Staying Safe was a major consultation which provided the opportunity for the government to consult with parents, children, young people, our partners and the children's workforce on children's safety.

The Staying Safe aims are to:
Raise awareness of the importance of safeguarding children and young people

Promote better understanding of safeguarding issues, encouraging a change in behaviour towards children and young people, and their safety and welfare

Ensure work in this area is coherent, and effectively coordinated across government, by outlining existing work in this area
Reinforce existing activity by proposing new actions to plug gaps and improve linkages

The consultation, which closed on 31 October, included a range of activities for practitioners; parents; children and young people, and the general public to give their views.
